This program is funded through a grant award to RTC/GTA from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Service (Cal OES). The RTC/GTA has worked on this program since its inception in the early 1990s. The program is unique in that it provides current training to law enforcement and public safety dispatchers through a multidisciplinary team trained in adult learning concepts.
Hosting a Course at your Agency:
If you are interested in hosting any of the first responder or public safety dispatcher courses, the RTC/GTA will schedule instructors, arrange all course materials and handle student registrations, certificates, rosters and other course logistics once a date is scheduled.
As a host, your agency would agree to:
- Provide a training room large enough for 25-30 students
- Provide basic AV equipment – LCD projector and screen, speakers, flip chart with paper (if no whiteboard). If no A/V equipment available, RTC/GTA can still assist providing the course locally and will send equipment as necessary.
- Most importantly – ADVERTISE the class(es) to local agencies! The RTC/GTA will create a flyer for the course and advertise, but in our experience, local advertising makes the difference in obtaining enough students to run the course successfully!
Any combination of the classes can be hosted at your agency or in your area. However, we have found that hosting a sexual assault and domestic violence first responder/dispatcher course back-to-back allows students to attend one or both. Contact Program Assistant Alicia Shade at ashade@govtraining.com to let her know you are interested in being a host agency.
Scholarship Funding:
There are no costs in tuition for any of the courses offered through this program. In addition, scholarship funding is available to support reimbursement of travel expenses for students and/or their agencies in attending these courses. Please contact Program Assistant Alicia Shade at ashade@govtraining.com for additional details.
