Course Description

This course presents new managers with the information and skills they need to develop to succeed as a middle-manager. The promotion to Lieutenant dramatically changes a person’s view of their department, and their level of responsibility and accountability. Through this course, the student will explore these changes in relationships, perspective, and the new skills demanded of them.

Important Note: Correctional Lieutenants working in Custody/Detentions, may attend the course only if there is space available and pay course tuition. Priority enrollment for this course is for personnel working under their POST Reimbursable division of POST reimbursable agencies. Most Sheriff’s agencies are POST reimbursable agencies, but many have separate functions and tracks for Custody/Corrections which fall under STC. Those Lieutenants who are strictly working in custody/corrections and have no nexus to the POST side of the organization are considered NON-REIMBURSABLE and must pay the course tuition and pay their own travel costs. For Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant or Sergeant you must designate your title as Lieutenant – Deputy Sheriff or Lieutenant – Correctional Officer when registering for this course.

Note: POST does not accept students into the Management Course who are employed by a government agency that does not have a law enforcement function, such as district attorney managers, public defender manager, public works department, human resources department, etc. This course is specifically designed for law enforcement personnel at the management level. If you fall within a category that precludes you from attending this management course the GTA does offer other management level courses, please call to inquire.
