This POST Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI) scenario-based training course is designed for experienced detectives who are assigned to investigate law enforcement involved critical incidents including officer-involved shootings, use of force incidents and in- custody deaths.
Designed for experienced detectives, this scenario based training course will focus on critical incidents, including: officer-involved shootings; use of force incidents; and in- custody deaths. Participants will be assigned to an investigative team, respond to a different use of force incident scene, and conduct an investigation into the scenario incident. Investigation techniques will include crime scene management and documentation, conducting interviews, and evidence collection. A participant presentation to a panel of experts will culminate this training. Topics covered throughout this course include understanding stakeholders, lawful and unlawful force, physiological and psychological changes (human factors), administrative and criminal investigations, legal considerations and courtroom testimony, crime scene reconstruction, video forensics, electronic control weapon (ECW) incidents, excited delirium related issues and contemporary critical incident case studies.

POST Reimbursement Plan IV: There is NO tuition for POST reimbursable agencies for the September 2018 and March 2019 course offerings. There is no reimbursement for travel and per diem.
Non-POST Reimbursable agencies: Tuition is $1,706.00. There is no reimbursement for travel and per diem.

Special Note regarding Tuition for the ICI OIS Class: POST FY1819 funding for the ICI OIS course will cover tuition costs for the September 2018 and March 2019 OIS course dates for POST reimbursable agencies only. GTA/RTC understands the demand for this course and will provide additional course offerings, but those additional offerings will have a tuition charge for ALL agencies, regardless of POST affiliation, to cover the cost of the course.
