Course Description

The utilization of confidential informants and confidential information are critical tools for the law enforcement investigator, but must be handled and managed carefully to reduce the degree of liability for both law enforcement personnel and agencies. This 24-hour course will provide investigators with the information and skills to aid them in the successful cultivation and management of confidential informants. The course is designed for active hands-on participation by the students. The course will provide a multidisciplinary perspective from an investigator, law enforcement supervisor and district attorney. 

The course is founded in adult based learning, therefore each block of instruction will include student involvement. We encourage students to come prepared to share their experience to enhance collaborative learning.

Course Prerequisites

While this is not a search warrant writing class, it is recognized that writing a proper search warrant in relation to investigations is essential to your job. With that in mind, the following has been established as a minimum baseline for students attending this course:

  1. Have taken the 2-week ICI Core Course
    OR
  2. POST online Search Warrant Fundamentals course to demonstrate knowledge of search warrant writing.  Click here to be taken to the POST Learning Portal. . Completion of this online class does give 3 hours of CPT credit.

Course Fee Information:

POST Reimbursement Plan V: No tuition for POST reimbursable agencies. Travel reimbursement is available via Training Reimbursement Request (TRR).

Non-POST Reimbursable agencies: Tuition is $489.52. There is no reimbursement for travel and per diem.
