This interactive, student-centered course provides School Resource Officers (SROs) with critical knowledge, skills, and communication techniques to provide more trauma-informed interactions with youth. In this course, participants will learn strategies to foster positive relationships with youth, learn the short and long-term consequences of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and learn to work collaboratively within the school system to address students’ needs. Participants will utilize the latest virtual reality technology to reinforce important skills through live simulation. This course is team taught, with a multidisciplinary team, with expertise in law enforcement, school administration and working with children.

This course is funded through a grant by the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) to Waymakers. The Government Training Agency is a partner agency for the grant in supporting this training.

Special Note: This course provides POST perishable skills training in the area of Strategic Communications.
