This course is designed to provide both novice and experienced detectives with the knowledge and personal skills necessary to conduct successful burglary, theft and receiving stolen property investigations. Detectives new to their assignment will learn specific investigative techniques, problem-solving skills, and case management skills; experienced detectives will update their skills and learn the latest techniques to improve clearance and filing rates.
This 40-hour course is one of the Foundation Specialty courses of POST’s Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigations (ICI).

There are several prerequisites for this ICI Burglary, Theft & Receiving Stolen Property Investigations course, and you must meet all of these in order to attend the course. If you have any questions or concerns around these prerequisites, please contact the RTC as soon as possible. While this is not a search warrant writing class, it is recognized that writing a proper search warrant in relation to burglary investigations is essential to successful investigations. With that in mind, the following have been established as a minimum baseline for students attending this course:
- Have taken the 2-week ICI Core Course
- POST online Search Warrant Fundamentals course to demonstrate knowledge of search warrant writing. Click here to be take to the POST Learning Portal. Completion of this online course does give 3 hours of CPT credit.
All students are required to bring a laptop computer and USB drive with them to class that has wireless Internet capabilities, Microsoft Word and administrator rights or the ability to install software on the computer.

Special Note regarding Tuition for ICI Classes: POST has suspended funding to most ICI courses effective April 1, 2018. GTA/RTC will continue to present the course, but will need to charge a tuition to cover the cost of the course. Effective April 1, 2018, the tuition for this course is $950.00 per student. You can pay the tuition fee by either sending or bringing a check to class or call this office with a credit card number.
POST Reimbursement Plan IV: Tuition is $950. There is no reimbursement for travel and per diem.
